I’ve learned a lot over the years, and now I’d like to pass along the teen slang I’ve deciphered so that you too can decode conversations around you-or maybe even throw them into your classroom instruction and join me in the cringiest-teacher-of-all club. I decided I would refrain from incorporating the language of youth into my lessons until I was certain I knew more about teen slang. Then, with the help of Urban Dictionary, I learned that “Netflix and chill” did not mean what I thought it meant. So, I did what you do to diffuse an awkward moment and started river dancing. This time, however, I knew that I had obviously said something inappropriate. They laughed immediately and collectively. I got excited when they announced their team name and responded, “I love to Netflix and chill! My husband and I Netflix and chill every night!” The class erupted. One team chose “Netflix and Chill” as a team name. Used by malicious players, usually.When I first started teaching, I let my students pick their own team names for an activity we were doing in class. Another way to say "go k*ll yourself," this phrase references an older meme, but is also used to seriously suggest that players commit suicide.Person 1: "You're just sitting there camping, I can't even leave my spawn!".A version of the phrase "get good," this is used similarly to "ez" after a team or individual wins a match, round, game, etc., as a way to insult the other players, who are perceived to be performing poorly.Short for "good game," can be congratulatory to teammates or braggadocious to enemies.Similar to "EZ" or "dog water," this taunt is used when a player wins a match, round, game, etc., and means the other play was playing so badly, they seemed like a noob.May be used to insult someone acting childish and under the age of 13. Used seldomley, but is a reference to the 13+ age requirement to be a member on Roblox.In non-game applications, it is used as a general challenge to another. Could be used seriously in battle games or jokingly/rudely in casual settings. Refers to playing/fighting one-on-one.Person 2: ".that was such a dumb joke xD.".Person 1: "Idk, I was hoping you knew.".Person 1: "What did one noob say to the other?".Emoticon that's meant to represent a person laughing or being excited, typically used after a joke has been said, similar to the laughing emoji."Your avatar is really cute XD, xD, or xd.Emoticon that's meant to represent a person blushing, typically used when giving or receiving compliments or in awkward situations.Person 1: "Heyyy, would you want to go play Fashion Famous? :3".Emoticon that's meant to represent a cute cat face, typically used in replace of just a normal smiley face when happy, or at the end of a question, sort of like the puppy-dog eyes effect.Person 2: "That game haunts my nightmares.
