This is an important question that can often be overlooked, with potential clients assuming that all carpenters work on all types of projects. Have they done the work being requested before? Finish carpenters will be the ones to install your trim, wood flooring, railings, and handrails and are also sometimes referred to as trim carpenters. ![]() Finish carpenters – similar to cabinet makers, finish carpenters are responsible for the finer details that are not structural but make up the parts of your home that you'll see daily.They are some of the last carpenters that work on a project because cabinetry is a part of the finishing process and is generally one of the last things that are installed. Cabinet makers – Carpenters specializing in cabinetry are extremely skilled at fine woodworking and excel at precise and detail-oriented work.Jointers – Joint carpentry involves putting together floor joists that create the surface you'll walk on once it's finished.Framing carpentry goes hand-in-hand with rough carpentry, however, framing is often seen as a specialized skill. Framing carpenters – Framing carpenters are the pros responsible for putting up the base structure that will become the interior and exterior walls of a building.Their expertise is in the overall structure and stability of buildings and the big-picture aspects of building a home. Rough carpenters – Rough carpenters are one of the first trades you'll have on-site if you’re building a house.However, for the most part, when you think carpenters, think wood. ![]() There are some small exceptions to this for buildings that use steel studs or other types of metal framing, for example. The hallmark of all types of carpentry is that carpenters are experts in working with wood. Today, carpentry has become a very specialized trade and most carpenters have a niche. Tad is an endorsee for Yamaha Drums, Evans Drumheads, Zildjian Cymbals, and Innovative Percussion Sticks and Mallets.Carpentry is one of the oldest professions - for as long as people have needed shelter to live in, there has been some form of carpentry. Tad has composed music for The Guitar Center Drum Off, The GRAMMYs, The Academy Awards, Coachella Music Festival, and openings for The Hollywood Bowl and Old Navy Stores in China. Tad received his Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential at California State University, Northridge and his Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance at University of Southern California. He is also a clinician for Yamaha Sounds of Summer, and instructs Disneyland’s All American College Band. Tad currently instructs drum lines for the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band, Tournament of Roses Honor Band, and he is Director of Percussion at Pasadena City College. On the marching band side, Tad was percussion instructor for University of California, Los Angeles and California State University, Northridge. Over the years, he has instructed championship drum corps including the Sacramento Freelancers, the Glassmen, and the Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. By age 14, he was a member of the SCV "A" corps drum line that captured the "High Drum" trophy in 1975 and then again in 1978. At age 11, he was playing with Santa Clara Vanguard "B" Corps. Tad Carpenter has built a distinguished career in the Marching Band and Drum & Bugle Corps activity. ![]()
